Collecting Disneyana

Picked up, yet, another collecting guide: Collecting Disneyana Identification and Value Guide. I believe this makes the seventh one in my collection. (I've also got Cecil Munsey's Disneyana, Mickey Mouse Memorabilia, Collectors Encyclopedia of Disneyana, Disneyana Classic Collectibles, Mickey Mouse Watch From the Beginning of Time, Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles and Warman's Disney Collectibles Field Guide). Whew, that's a lot more than I thought I had.

This new book is 240 pages jammed-packed with color photos. Quite a few items I've never seen before. The book is broken into three major themes: Golden Years, Feature Films & Television, and Modern Collectibles. Each item listed contains a brief description and value (and the values are always open for debate and interpretation). The downside on this book is that it's a little thin on text or any background on the items.

I'm still waiting for someone to do a book like this solely devoted to Disneyland collectibles.

Double Dip of Disneyland Pictorial Souvenirs

My mailman was busy this week - I received two different copies of the Disneyland Pictorial Souvenirs.

The 1970s marked an era of laziness on Disney's part - The souvenir guide books got locked into the same format; picture selection and text for more than ten years with only minor changes from year to year.

Between 1973 and 1974 (1974 is seen above with the red Disneyland text) the following changes were made: The Columbia was added to the picture selection in Frontierland; Pack Mules are replaced by a photo the Keel Boats and the full-page back cover photo changes from The Country Bear Jamboree to America Sings.

The 1981 edition (above with yellow Disneyland text) also received several revisions. In comparison to the above 1974 edition, we get a new shot of Sleeping Beauty Castle. (Much like it's red-lettered cousin with the Frontierland profile of Sleeping Beauty Castle, who spent at least six years on the cover, the yellow-lettered Tomorrowland profile would spend an equal amount of time gracing the cover.)

Compared to the closest edition I have (1978), the Frontierland section gets an overhaul to include numerous pictures of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

To Infinity and Beyond!

Happy Birthday To Me! Happy Birthday To Me!

It feels like I've been waiting forever for this book to finally come out.

Thanks to the lovely Mrs. Disneycollection, I'm going to spend all my free time pouring over the 300 pages and analyzing all the images.

Woohoo!

Mid 90s Disneyland Pictorial Souvenir

Happy New Year Everyone!

For some reason, the Disneyland guide books from the 90s don't contain copyrights. I'm not quite sure if this souvenir book is from 1996. It could be from 1995 and missing the 40 Years of Adventure logo, or even from 1997. Anyway, there are numerous changes from the 1993 edition.

Indiana Jones gets a two-page spread as well as a revamp of the Adventureland section; small world goes pastel; ToonTown goes from concept art to two-pages of photos, and gone are photos of Mission to Mars and the Sky Way buckets.

If anyone can positively identify the year, I'd love to hear from you.
