1956 Postcard Folder

Picked up another Disneyland postcard folder. This one contains 12 classic images from 1956. One of the rare folders to actually contain a copyright stamp. (Unfortunatley, the Nickel Tour does not contain any info on these postcard folders.)

If anyone has a method or a checklist for determining the age or chronilogical order of these folders, I'd love to hear from you.

Mark Twain and Cascade Peak

The Hallmark PDL series of postcards usually featured unusual views of Disneyland or images that weren't seen on your standard postcards. But, here we get your basic view of the Mark Twain as it's steaming past Cascade Peak. And, it's really not that great of photograph either. The picture was most likely taken near the end of an overcast day. If the photographer had just waited a little longer, maybe a little closer to the golden hour with the sky begins to turn...

Well, I guess they all can't be winners.

Hallmark's Sleeping Beauty

Speaking of a lot of cards about a single subject, I've just added my 33rd Sleeping Beauty Castle postcard. This is an absolutely beautiful shot. (Also part of the Hallmark PDL series. Hallmark produced an oversize series of cards from 1960 to 1962). This shot was most likely taken before the Park was open for the day, and long before The Partners statue was added to the hub.

Park Peaks

Jason Surrell is at it again. First, we had his faboulous book on the Haunted Mansion and that was followed up by his Pirates of the Caribbean book. His current book, The Disney Mountains Imagineering At Its Peak, takes a look at all the Disney attractions based around mountain themes. All the classics are here (Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, etc), but we also get a look at some mountains that never got off the ground (Candy Mountain, and Thunder Mesa). An excellent book. Paperback: 128 pages

Check out an additional reviews at 2719 Hyperion and Jimhill.

Everyone Neat and Pretty?

OK, let's get started.

I've been a pretty serious Disney collector for the last twenty years or so. And then, a very serious collector once eBay entered the picture.

I've also been maintaining a web site since the late 90s. My web site consists mostly of paper items. That is, my Disney book collection (almost 200 boooks); my Disneyland postcard collection (almost 900 cards and counting) and my Disneyland trading cards collection. (Complete sets from 1965, 1995 and the 50th anniversary from 2005).

I figured it was about time that I start blogging. So, stayed tuned for comments about collecting. I'll try to post often, but posts will only appear as long as I'm adding items.

Happy Collecting.
